The Post Christmas Hangover

Today was the day to get back on track. And not in the “oh no, I’m getting too faaaat!” way that I would have usually, but more like, four solid days of eating non-stop sugar and ham (not together) is making my body scream out for mercy. I suppose that’s what I get for eating 2 selection boxes, a very large portion of a tin of roses and keeping a fairly constant eating-on-the-hour routine going on. So I complied. 14 hours of sleep later, porridge for breakfast and salad for lunch and I feel mighty better. It’s nice to get an endorphin hit without the sugar coma that follows.

I also went for a run (my first bit of exercise in 4 days!) Accompanying me was my sexy new micoach pacer. I think I’m in love. Whilst I love the buzz of running and getting outside and moving, there is quite a sense of satisfaction in knowing how far you went (a short 2.2 miles) and how fast you were going (avg 6:55 min/km (not good) but there was walking involved in the interval workout). Just the thing to get me out of my rut 🙂 Yoga was also on the cards and I am nicely refreshed to go see Gulliver’s Travels with my mom in a while. Laters alligators 🙂

Best Noms. Ever.

I’m one of those people who eats continually. I try to eat every three hours anyway to keep upset stomachs at bay and to keep my metabolism humming at tip top shape. And once 8 o clock hits, its more like every 25 minutes. So here is my Ultimate Snack List. Feel free to emulate my crazy eating habits. Liberally 🙂

1. Ryvita (Not just cardboard.)

The Healthy Option: Stick some ham, lettuce, cucumber and the most important ingredient, sweet chili sauce on that. Sweet chili sauce should be on everything. Wheat-free, filling, you can’t lose 😉

The Binge Trigger: Lob on the Nutella and Peanut Butter and sandwich together for addictive sugar heaven. Warning: May cause next day illness. Because if you are anything like me, you will eat 10.

2. Jelly (Like when we were kids.)

The Healthy Option: Hartley’s Sugar Free Jelly is a-to-the-mazing. It comes in every good flavour (I’m loving raspberry. And lime when the mood strikes.) And only 8 calories?! Where’d you be going?

The Binge Trigger: I make my jelly in a wine glass. So I fill the remaining space with custard. To bring me right back to the 90s. If you want to retain some level of health, Tesco Light Choices is claaaaaaaaaass.

3. Crisps (I’d say Taytos. But me and Taytos have had our issues.)

The Healthy Option: Popcorn. It comes in a ka-GIANT bag. And only 65c. Win.

The Binge Trigger: McCoys Ready Salted. They were floating around the house after the debs. If these are Man Crisps, then call me Dave.

Other Favourites

My chocolate fix: Options Mint Madness Hot Chocolate. Just made Dad buy the big tub. I think I have a problem

My yogurt:  Muller Light Vanilla with Chocolate Sprinkles. Or Pear and Mango Irish Diet Yogurt. Man I love yogurt… I need the calcium.

My Tesco buy: Snax. Yes I am 5.

I do actually eat real food. From time to time. But that’s hardly as fun.

Mmmmm, Chocolate…

Oh, Easter. In spite of the fact that we agreed to not get an egg from the ‘rents, I still ended up with a buttload of chocolate. Had to keep eating sweets at the charity gig (sponsored walk and gig for Limerick Oncology Unit, courtesy of my aunt Val, all round success) because I was singing a song or two to a big crowd and I needed my sugar rush. 🙂 Then I decided the best thing to do would be to get rid of all the chocolate in one day and start a fresh on Monday (for one must always start a fresh on a Monday.)

I had an Easter egg from each of the Nanas, one from my BFF (who was staying the night) and the aforementioned Lindt bunnies to get through. SO between me, the sisters and the BFF, a chocolate binge was had. And it owned. And Sinead and I stayed awake until 7am having the kind of conversations one only expects from the drunk.

And thus, came Monday. And on this Monday, I have decided to embark upon Chocolate Detox. I’ve done it before, way back in second year, and lasted from the start of the school year to Christmas. And since then, I’ve been delightfully engorging myself on the sweet stuff. So, to avoid chocolate headaches on top of study headaches, its time to quit again. I vow, on this most solemn of Internets, to not have a bite until my birthday (20th May for your calenders 😉 ) Now I am accountable. Wish me luck 😀

I was given two of these today. Out of the blue. Was just chilling in the extension with Stevie and Anna, when in my friend comes, surprise visit, saying he got me them just because and that he hoped I wasn’t allergic. Which I’m not 🙂 He didn’t stay (I think he’s afraid of the other two) but it was quite lovely all the same.

Quite lovely indeed.
